It Reads Like a Clare Boothe Luce Play
Title: “… a Clare Boothe Luce Play.”
-- Clare Booth Luce (who was married to Henry
Luce the founder of Time Magazine, and others)
wrote a play entitled “The Women” in which there
are no men on stage at any time and the women
are engaged in a blur of dealing, double-dealing,
being doubled dealt against regarding their
friendships and their marriages.
“… the editors of which were not even informed …”
-- According to Howard Kurtz, the News division and the Editorial division at the
Wall Street Journal claim they only acknowledge each others’ existence because
their paychecks both say “Dow Jones” on them.
MEGO.
-- Years ago I read an article about an archetypal news editor who used the
acronym “MEGO” to describe “think pieces,” “news analyses,” and long
backgrounders. The letters stand for “Mine Eyes Glaze Over.”
