- "Frankfurt am Main and Seattle am Puget. Sister Cities." Frankfurt am Main is the full name of the city of Frankfurt, Germany. Seattle is near the Puget sound, but … am Puget is NOT part of Seattle's name.
- "If I were the Seattle authorities…" At Microsoft there is, reportedly, a phrase of art known as "million-dollar pick-ups." These are the pick up trucks of employees to, indeed did, take their original stock options and bought trucks. Those options would likely be worth upwards of a million dollars if they had been able to hold onto them.
- "Sainted son, Reed, and I …" There was a farmer's almanac-type urban legend that the moon would be bright enough to allow driving without headlights. The sane member of our family outvoted us and insisted we keep the headlights on.
- "… one would have thought that, at a minimum, the wife-of …" Ted Turner's wife is, of course, that icon of the conservative movement, Jane Fonda.
- "… or Festivus …" Festivus (for the Rest of Us) was a holiday invented by George Costanza's father on Seinfeld.
