- " Blizzard ...": From the Merriam-Webster Unabridged:
Etymology: origin unknown
1 (archaic): a shot or volley of shots
2 a: a severe and prolonged snowstorm
nbsp&; nbsp& b: an intensely strong cold wind filled with fine snow
[I swear this is in the dictionary and I didn't see it until I had finished writing the column]
Blizzard Head
Function: noun
1: a woman television performer having hair so blond as to require special lighting to prevent a flare or halo from appearing
- " Uncle Miltie ..." MILTON BERLE. (Mendel Berlinger). Born in New York City, New York, July 12, 1908. Died March 27, 2002. From the Museum of Broadcast Communications:
Berle became television's first super-star, with the highest ratings ever attained and was soon referred to as "Mr. Television," "Mr. Tuesday Night," and "Uncle Miltie."
Restaurants, theaters, and nightclubs adjusted their schedules so patrons would not miss Berle's program at 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday nights
- " Liberal Leave ...": Actually, according to this news release from the Federal Office of Personnel Management the correct phrase is "Unscheduled Leave." Less confusing, the release says.
Mullfoto of the Day
This was the scene outside my office, Tuesday afternoon, on 21st Street looking toward K Street (home of many of the lobbyists we were speaking about the other day) in Washington, DC.
Notice the sea of white. Note the devastation. See the hordes of people walking, walking looking for any shelter they can find.
Catchy Caption of the Day
Actual Caption:
Michael Borenaga of Philippines (L) with Sahali bin abd Samad of Malaysia (R) perform during the bantam 65kg bodybuilding final at the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Manila. Borenaga won the gold medal with a perfect score of 10 with Samad taking the silver.
Dear Mr. Mullings
If its all the same to you, we'd rather have beach volleyball photos.
Signed,
