" London Times ...": Here's a link to the analysis of political situation in Afghanistan from the London Times.
Mullfoto of the Day
I LOVE the Hammacher Schlemmer catalogue. It is filled with things I will never need, should never buy, but have to talk myself out of. For instance the "16th Century Nocturnal Time and Tide Computer" pictured here.
From the description in the catalogue:
This is a faithful replica of the nocturnal time and tide predictor made by Elzabethan instrument maker Humfrey Cole circa 1570 that resides today in London's British Museum.
To determine the time, a user aligns Polaris (the current Pole Star) with the central hole in the dial. The alidade is then pointed to Kochab B - a star in Ursa Minor (i.e. The Little Dipper)- which indicates the hour (based upon the current month and day of the year).
It can be used thus for another 12,000 years until Vega becomes the Pole Star.
I'm thinking of having that description made into one of those motovational posters and hanging it in Mullings Central:
Catchy Caption of the Day
Actual Caption:
Surfer Raph Bruhwiler (R) lights his Olympic Torch from Ruth Sadler while surfing with the flame along the shores of Pacific Rim National Park just outside Tofino, British Columbia. The torch was carried out to far west coast of Canada on the third day of its 106-day journey leading to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
When did Ice Surfing become an Olympic sport?
