Catchy Caption of the Day
You are go for throttle-up.
"Go for throttle-up" is actually called to the crew after the shuttle engines have been reduced to about 75% to allow the vehicle to get through the period of highest dynamic forces - a combination of speed and the density of the atmosphere through which the shuttle is being pushed. This is (or used to be) called: Max Q.
But my favorite call has always been: "Press to Meco" which for decades I thought (having never seen it in print) was a very mysterious "presto-meeko."
Press to Meco is the point (about 68 miles altitude and about 17,500 miles per hour) at which the Main Engines Cut Off (M-E-C-O) and the vehicle will make it into orbit.
