Les Lions de la Teranga
Monday, June 3, 2002
- TITLE: "Les Lions de la Teranga" This is the nickname of the Senegal soccer team. It means, The Lions of Teranga." Teranga, as nearly as I can tell, means "hospitality" in the Wolof language. While "The Lions of Hospitality" doesn't make great sense to a Western ear neither, I suspect, does "Washington Redskins" make sense to the average Senegalese.
- "...sorghum ..." According to the National Grain Surghum Producers web page, "Grain sorghum is utilized in food and industries around the world, as well as being a staple feed ingredient in the U.S. Worldwide, more than 50 % of sorghum is grown directly for human consumption."
But then, in a small error (in the opinion of the Mullmeister) in marketing, the description goes on to say, "Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has used sorghum for many years in the production of wallboard for the housing industry."
Now there's a magical grain: Cereal and wallboard.
- "... Starbucks ..." Here's a link to the International Herald Tribune article about Starbucks in Vienna.
- TRAVELOGUE! Here's the link to the Travelogue about my trip down here - actually it has almost nothing to do with a trip to New Orleans, but it does describe my day in detail
