I wanted to pass along some more info about the volunteer group I'm with up
at Walter Reed. The group is called CAUSE, and here is a link to their
webpage www.cause-usa.org
It was started by 4 West Pointers/Vietnam vets and their wives. CAUSE
provides entertainment services at WRAMC, mostly for the outpatient folks
and their families at the Mologne House, but also for the soldiers and
Marines who are in the hospital, when possible.
The main thing we do up there is staff and run the digital library, where
the wounded and their families can check out Playstations, X-box, games, and
DVDs, free of charge. The library is run out of Mologne House and they have
it open from 6-8 Monday through Thursday and usually for 4 hours on both
Saturday and Sunday (my team is responsible for keeping shop on Monday
nights).
CAUSE also puts on events such as bringing in stylists from a local salon to
give haircuts and manicures to the wives/girlfriends/mothers, and they set
up a Monte Carlo night every 6-8 weeks.
They're doing their first fundraising gala this coming Saturday. From what
I can tell, they want to raise enough money to be able to expand the
operation, either to other medical centers or so that we can expand the
digital library to those men and women who are still in the hospital.
Thanks for all that you do in support of these guys. I'm positive that it
helps them to know that we care about them and appreciate their sacrifice.
