Friday May 25, 2001
- TITLE: "Mutt and Jeffords" A pun on an ancient newspaper comic strip, "Mutt and Jeff" by San Francisco cartoonist Bud Fisher which he began in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1907. It ran until 1984.
- " PAC income " Here is the Open Secrets web site detailing Jefford's fund raising chicanery.
- " Orwell's novel, 1984" This is the book cover as you probably remember it from high school.
- "Walter Houston Dance of Joy" Walter Houston played the role of the old prospector, Howard in the 1948 classic "Treasure of the Sierra Madre".
When he, Fred C. Dobbs (played by Humphrey Bogart) and Bob Curtin (played by Tim Holt) find gold, Houston's character dances a jig (reprised by Billy Crystal in "City Slickers II").
- " Don't Tread on Me " The first flag used by commanders of the Continental Navy adapted by Christopher Gadsden of South Carolina.
A slightly different version: With red and white stripes is flown over the oldest ship in the U.S. Navy, currently the Kitty Hawk.
