  • "... Carlo Ponzi ..." In the early part of the 20th Century Mr. Ponzi figured out that you could generate huge profits by promising huge profits to investers and having a little stick to your own self. He would promise people that he would return their investment with a 30, 40 or 50% profit in a short period of time.

    He did this by paying the first person's profit with the second person's investment. He would pay the second person with the proceeds of the third, and so on.

    This type of swindle is now known as a "Ponzi scheme."

    There is a minor logical flaw in this theory in that sooner or later you will run out of investors, either because people catch on or you have gotten every single person on the planet to invest.

    This is often solved by retiring to a place invented by Robin Williams: "Club Fled."

  • Mullfoto of the Day

    There are a couple of points to be made here:

    First, the "n" in "town" is backwards. This is some concern at a sushi restaurant where one would think some eye-to-hand coordination is called for;

    Second, this restuarant is in Asheville, North Carolina. Being voted the "Best sushi bar in town" reminds us of that great Charles Emerson Winchester III (of M*A*S*H fame) who said that "was like being named the prima ballerina ...
    of Galveston."
