I was tempted to write that the Missing Mullings was a threat to you who haven't subscribed, but herewith the real explanation:
On Wednesday night the House and Senate Republican campaign committees had their annual fund-raising dinner. When the GOP has the White House this is called, "The President's Dinner." In the years when we are wandering in the political desert, it is known as "The House-Senate Dinner."
These dinner have, typically, been attended by 3,300 - 3,500 people. Last year saw a dramatic increase in attendance to almost 6,500.
This year we shoe-horned over 7,100 people into the new Washington Convention Center.
One of the many things in my past I have kept from you is the fact that, earlier in my career, I wrote computer software. One of the programs I wrote does the seating for large, political gatherings such as this (please don't call and ask to buy or rent the software).
On Tuesday night, when I normally write Wednesday's Mullings, I found that assigning a seat to all those people had caused Tuesday night to slide into Wednesday morning. We finally finished up at about 3:00 am and I had neither the energy nor the inclination to begin writing Mullings at that point.
I'll make it up to you.
