NAME - Karen Hughes.
AGE; BIRTH DATE - 45; Dec. 27, 1956.
EDUCATION - B.A., Southern Methodist University, 1977.
EXPERIENCE - White House counselor, January 2001-present; communications director, Bush gubernatorial offices and presidential campaign, 1994-2000; Texas Republican Party executive director, 1992-94; public relations and media consultant, 1985-91; Texas media coordinator Reagan-Bush campaign, 1984; Television reporter, 1977-84.
FAMILY - Husband, Jerry; teen-age son Robert.
QUOTE - "My commute is going to be a bit longer, but you're going to continue seeing me." (April 22, 2002, on resigning her White House post to move back to Texas.)
- "... through the re-election ..." Shortly after the November elections there will be formed (if not announced) a Bush/Cheney '04 campaign or some variant thereof.
- "... Iron Triangle ..." During the six years of George W. Bush's Governorship and through the campaign the three most important staffers were Hughes, Rove, and Allbaugh. Karen and Karl had essentially the roles they have today. Joe Allbaugh was the campaign manager of the first race for Governor, stayed on to be the chief of staff to Governor Bush, then was the campaign manager of the Presidential campaign.
After the Inauguration, Allbaugh was appointed to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a role in which he starred after September 11.
