Gonzales Should Resign

Rich Galen

Friday, April 20, 2007

  • " Washington Times ..." Here's the Washington Times coverage of the Gonzales Hearing.

  • " Washington Post ..." Here's the Washington Post coverage for comparison.

  • " Ruby Ridge ..." In the e-mail version of today's MULLINGS, I ascribed Ruby Ridge to Janet Reno. It actually occurred in 1992 - during the administration of George H.W. Bush as described in a citation from the CATO Institute.

At CNN yesterday, debate partner, Paul Begala, said he thought Ruby Ridge had pre-dated Reno, so I looked it up on the computer in the Green Room.

I Googled "Ruby Ridge Reno" and came up with this page from the Washington Post. If you read it quickly (as I did) you come to the line which states

"She was praised for her role investigating the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and the Unabomber but criticized for her handling of the Ruby Ridge incident and the storming of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Tex.
Which I took to mean what I wanted it to mean.

Lesson: Sometimes Googling is like depending upon the spell-checker in your word processor. It will tell you if you've spelled Capitol correctly; it won't tell you if that was the correct word in the first place.

    Mullfoto of the Day

On M Street, NW at the corner of 19th Street in downtown Washington on Monday afternoon. The winds were gusting at up to 60 mph which caused these four newspaper boxes to go on strike for better cold weather protection.

    Catchy Caption of the Day

    Actual Caption:

Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and his teammates came out in the second inning of their game against the Atlanta Braves at RFK Tuesday night wearing caps from Virginia Tech. The RFK crowd responded with a standing ovation.

I took this photo as the official sports columnist for the Mighty Alexandria Times.

I took it with my new Olympus SP-550 UZ 18x Optical Zoom camera (which I purchased one day after I thought I'd lost my Canon SD700 IS; and one day before The Lad found it.

All that to tell you that the photo which appeared in the Alex Times was taken from my seats behind the first base dugout at full 18:1 zoom on Tuesday night. See how much difference that is from a photo taken yesterday afternoon - from the same seats - at 1:1 (which is to say zero) zoom by clicking HERE.
