A Right-Wing-Ven-om-Ma-chine
Monday, April 3, 2000
- Title: "A Right-Wing-Ven-om-Ma-chine" A pun on the phrase, "Lean-Mean-Fighting-Machine from the movie, "Stripes." See below.
- "… who think 'Stripes' …" This was a really silly vehicle for Bill Murray which was more or less a sequel to his 1979 movie "Meatballs." The Oscar for best picture that year, by the way, was "Chariots of Fire." "Stripes" was not really nominated for Best Picture, nor for anything else.
- "… Al Gore and Harold Ickes." Ickes (pronounced ICK-eez) was Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House during the 1996 re-election campaign. For a 1997 discussion by CNN, click here.
- "Leonardo DiCaprio." This was reported on Saturday, which was April First, which led me and others to think this was an April Fools joke. It may be April. And I may be a fool. But the story is true.
- "Who's the leader of the club …" Is sung to the theme song of the Mickey Mouse Club.
