- "� FUBAR ... ": I know, I know. I was on active duty. That's the joke.
The Oxford English Dictionary lists Yank, the Army Weekly magazine (1944, 7 Jan. p. 8) as its earliest citation. A milder alternative to the version with which you are familiar is "Fouled up Beyond All Recognition."
- "� Al Jazeera ... ": Here's the piece on al Jazeera's website on a pan-Arabic mega-country.
- "� 54°-40' ... ": Here's the Wikipedia entry for how the long border between the U.S. and Canada, west of the Great Lakes, was determined at 54 degrees, 30 minutes north latitude.
- "� Mexico Borders ... ": If you had asked me where "Belize" was located before I looked at Mexico's southern border I would have thought it was some island nation off Indonesia.
