- "The big Kahuna" Kahuna - A Hawaiian priest-magician. A shaman or a wizard. Similar to Semitic words for "priest" (Arabic kahin, Hebrew kohen).
- "… AND southern." Which only goes to prove that it does sometimes rain in southern California.
- "Shakespearian in its meter…" The chant was in iambic pentameter - or something darned close to it. Shakespeare wrote his plays in that same meter.
