TITLE: "Amusing, Insightful, a Little Over the Top" A more-or-less quotation from the article in yesterday's Washington Post regading on-line pundits. Here is what Ellen McCarthy said in toto about Mullings - (click on her name to see the entire column):
Mullings
Among the few to consider his site more business than hobby, Rich Galen, a former press secretary to Newt Gingrich, recently began charging $25 a year for access to Mullings (www.mullings.com). The site includes Galen's commentary on nearly all major news topics, and a few that slipped through the cracks.
The site is sometimes erratic, as Galen jumps from topic to topic and ties together seemingly unrelated facts. When he gets rolling, Galen can be amusing and insightful, if a little over the top.
In his not-quite-daily updates, Galen, who also shows up as a talking head on television, regularly tries to debunk liberal spin and promote Washington's right-wingers. The personal essays can be long and winding, but are written with passion. Galen is at his best when, rather than preach long-form, he uses mock interviews, memos and quips to make his point.
- " speak French " This is a reference to a character played by the late Melvyn Douglas in a fairly forgettable 1979 movie written by and starring Alan Alda, "The Seduction of Joe Tynan."
Alda plays a (surprise!) Liberal U.S. Senator who takes the point position in trying to block a Supreme Court nominee and ends up sleeping with Meryl Streep's character for the price of it.
At any rate, Douglas' character - a very old U.S. Senator - has clearly lost his marbles and begins, during a committee hearing, to speak French demonstrating his complete breakdown.
Fritz, perhaps, will speak German.
- "Bernard Goldberg's book " "Bias" which is subtitled, "A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News" is ranked, of the gazillion books Amazon.com has for sale, at number 9 - NINE!
- " Travelogue " Here is the link to the Travelogue for the Western Swing which begins this morning.

- Mullings' Catchy Caption of the day:
The "Ground Zero Flag" will be carried
by US Athletes during the opening ceremonies
in Salt Lake City. Long may it wave.
