  • "� John Erlichman ...": Here's the Wikipedia entry for former senior aide to Richard Nixon, John Erlichman.

  • "� Deputy Secretaries ...": I think we've been through this before, but it bears repeating. Here is the order of seniority in Cabinet Departments.
    - There is ONE Secretary for each Department.

    - There is ONE Deputy Secretary.

    - There are a number of Under Secretaries.

    - There are WAY more Assistant Secretaries.

    For the most part those four levels require Senate confirmation.

    Then there are hundreds and hundreds of Deputy Assistant Secretaries and thousands of jobs below that level which are filled by good people working hard, but who shouldn't be driven around in limos.
