  • "76 Little Bunny Rabbits ...": Obviously, a take on the show stopper, "76 Trombones" from "Music Man" by Meredith Willson (who was actually born in Mason City, Iowa. The lyrics:
Seventy six trombones led the big parade
a hundred and ten cornets close at hand
    They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos;
the cream of every famous band.

Seventy six trombones caught the morning sun
With a hundred and ten cornets right behind
There were more than a thousand reeds springing up like weeds,
There were horns of every shape and kind

There were copper bottom tympani in horse platoons
Thundering, thundering, all along the way
Double bell euphoniums and big bassoons
Each bassoon having his big fat say

There were fifty mounted cannon in the battery
    Thundering, thundering, louder than before
Clarinets of every size and trumpeters who'd improvise
A full octave higher than the score

Seventy six trombones hit the counter point
While a hundred and ten cornets played the air
To the rhythm of 'Harch Harch Harch!'
All the kids began to march
And they're marching still, right today

  • " New York Times ...": Here's the link to the piece by Adam Nagourney on the Dem's failed anti-Alito strategy.

  • " Edvard Munch ...": I thought this sounded familiar and, having Googled myself, found I had used a similar reference in a Mullings on May 14, 2004. This was the SDR reference:

  • " Edvard Munch ": Here's a quick bio:
    (b. Dec. 12, 1863-- d. Jan. 23, 1944) Norwegian painter and printmaker whose intense, evocative treatment of psychological and emotional themes was a major influence on the development of German Expressionism in the early 20th century.

His work often included the symbolic portrayal of such themes as misery, sickness, and death. The Scream, probably his most familiar painting, is typical in its anguished expression of isolation and fear.

His painting The Scream (1893) is regarded as an icon of existential anguish.

Old Edv had quite the sense of humor. Here's a list of other titles in addition to "The Scream"

    The Murderer
    The Storm
    Vampire
    Jealousy
    The Dead Mother
    Death in the Sickroom
    Self-portrait after the Spanish Flu

That Edvard Munch. What a kidder!
Sort of like Richard Belzer's character, Detective John Munch, on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

    Um, what's with the kid?
Sorry, Louie. I couldn't find a baby sitter.
Yeah. Ok. But, like, does she have to wear that snowsuit?
    Shut up, Louie.
