Wednesday, January 2, 2002

  • TITLE: "Please Fence Me In"

  • "… Rid of Hey! Be Us! Corp Us! …" Writ of habeas corpus. This from the Electric Encylopedia:
[Lat.,=you should have the body], writ directed by a judge to some person who is detaining another, commanding him to bring the body of the person in his custody at a specified time to a specified place for a specified purpose. The writ's sole function is to release an individual from unlawful imprisonment; through this use it has come to be regarded as the great writ of liberty. The writ tests only whether a prisoner has been accorded due process, not whether he is guilty.

Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution states: "The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it."

Article I deals not with Executive Branch powers, but with Legislative Branch powers.

  • "… SS Minnow …" This was the name of the boat that Gilligan; the skipper, too; a millionaire, and his wife; the movie star; the professor; and, Maryanne were all aboard when, what was supposed to have been a three hour tour turned into a television show which lasted three years, from 1964-67.

  • "… Fox & Friends …"
