All Night Senate Session

Dear Mr. Mullings:

Why couldn't you quote a Republican in your MULLINGS column?

Signed,
Tired & Cranky in Indy

Only Democrats spoke which is within the concept of a filibuster: You have to hold the floor. If you give it up, then the other guys get to demand quorum calls, demand votes on motions, etc. etc.

In fact during her blathering, Sen. Landrieu was asked - assumedly by a Republican Senator - if she would "yield for a question" which does not constitute giving up control of the floor - although a question can go on for some time. She simply said, in that way that Southern Democratic Senators have: "NO!"

Whazzup with this, anyway? Are all the grownups in DC gone on vacation?

Also, re the SDR -- I suspect the Senate still buys their antifreeze from Kentucky, 5 bottles to the gallon.

I have posted this elsewhere today, but I feel pretty strongly about the "Disaster Party" being in charge of the legislative branch on Congress:

Harry Reid cooked up this political stunt and then didn't even stay awake for the main feature. If this is the best that the Democrats can come up, they need to get a new scriptwriter.

The main problem for Democrats is that they don't have the guts to give in to their anti-American base at Kos and Democratic Underground, not to mention MoveOn.org [which incidentally stopped moving on January 20, 2001]. The Dems want to give the impression that they are "sort of against" the Iraq War because of their hatred of George Bush, but they realize that Americans won't vote for a defeatist and cut-and-run party like the Dems are fast becoming.

Does the name George McGovern (c. 1972) ring a bell? The Dems certainly hope not, but the bellringers are getting ready just in case.

Good point about bringing a bed to a debate - if you don't count about 98% of the marriages in the world!
