Austin, Texas: The Spy Who Shagged Gore
Wednesday September 27, 2000
- Well, SOMEONE in Austin, Texas sent a video tape of George W. prepping for his debates to an advisor to the Al Gore campaign in Washington, DC.
- And SOMEONE in Nashville, Tennessee found the address of the advisor to the Gore campaign in Washington and gave that address to SOMEONE in Austin.
- The question becomes: Who, in the Gore campaign, knows what, about the person in the Bush campaign who sent this stuff?
- ABC.com has a clip of the interview Jackie Judd did with a source who says Gore staffer Michael Doyne told him about the mole story. Go here to look at the Judd interview.
- This only becomes important if the FBI determines that people at or near the senior staff level in the Gore campaign knew this was going on.
- Another sign that the Gore campaign is sagging. They've started running against Newt Gingrich. I guess that's like Republicans running against Ted Kennedy. Oh, Ted Kennedy is still IN office.
Never mind.
- The fiscal year ends on September 30 with a large number of appropriations bills not yet passed, much less signed. Look for the Gore campaign to begin running ads reminding us about the 1995-96 government shutdowns.
- Here's a tactical tip for House Speaker Dennis Hastert: Don't let the Clinton/Gore administration threaten you with a government shutdown. There will BE no government shutdown this year. The Clintons will never do anything which might interrupt the flow of donors sleeping at the White House and Camp David.
- This business about C.J. Hunter having tested positive for using steroids becoming the major story of the Olympics is just a little odd. C.J. isn't participating in the Olympics. His wife, Marion Jones is. He is accused of doping. She isn't. Making a big deal about someone not currently in the competition is just silly. It would be like the Gore campaign running against someone who hasn't been in public office in two years, like Newt. Oh.
- Harry Potter and the Wok of Fire: The latest J.K. Rowling offering, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is being released in China ahead of schedule. It seems the Chinese bootleg book industry has begun pumping out pirated versions of the novel. Harry, by the way, has now sold over 30 million hardcovers.
- Speaking of China, the China Trade bill is scheduled to be signed by Bill Clinton tomorrow. It is certain at least three people will not be there: Al Gore, John Sweeney, and Joe Lieberman.
- Sweeney, the President of the AFL-CIO which has been adamantly opposed to the bill, has not been heard from since it passed the Senate last week. Gore wants to stay as far away from Clinton on this one as he was during the - well, you remember.
- Lieberman missed the China vote in the Senate, even though prior to his nomination was a strong supporter of Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) with China. He was, one assumes, too busy campaigning to make that vote in the Senate.
- On Monday, the Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee was in Connecticut campaigning for re-election to his Senate seat. He wants to go back to the Senate in the (ever more) likely event he does not become Vice President so he can vote on important issues like PNTR, which vote he missed last week because he was campaigning for Vice President.
- See, those of you who don't live and work in Your Nation's Capital think this is odd. Fully paid up members of the National Pundit's Association find this behavior perfectly normal.
- Following the Yugoslav elections, President Slobodan Milosevic's ruling coalition is claiming, in spite of the fact no one on the planet believes it, he has the lead in partial returns. The opposition, led by Vojislav Kostunica, is claiming they have won the election.
- It is difficult to obtain hard facts, but observers suggest Milosevic might have been running against Newt Gingrich in the final days of the campaign.
- How cool is this? From Monday's San Francisco Examiner "Radio Highlights" column: "7 A.M. KSFO-AM (560): The Lee Rodgers Program. Rich Galen, Republican strategist and creator of Mullings.com."
- If this signals the end of Lee Rodgers' storied career in broadcasting, and it probably does, we'll just blame it on Newt.
