Hillary Clinton reprised her favorite role Americas Victim this week during a discussion at a conference in California.
Clinton mewled and whined about how James Comey and the Russians and the Donald and the New York Times and even the Democratic National Committee were to blame for her shocking loss in the election of 2016.
The fault, dear Brutus (Bruta?)
In the constant deluge forget that drip-drip-drip stuff of news regarding who in Trumpland met with which Russian, where, and what they discussed; the dreadful state of the National Democratic Party has been lost.
In the discussion about why Hillary lost (she was still the worst national candidate running the worse national campaign since, well, ever) to Donald Trump, we have heard precious little talk about why the Republicans also won all those U.S. House and Senate seats, all those State House and Senate seats, and all those Governors offices.
The April 2017 fundraising numbers are a pretty good indicator of where they stand. The DNC reported receipts of $4.7 million. Compare that with last years April number of $8.5 million.
I understand that 2016 was an even numbered year and 2017 is not. But it is also an off-year up the block at Republican National Committee HQ and the RNC reported raising $9.6 million last month, about what it raised in April, 2016.
In 2016, remember, the DNC was under the care and control of Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida until she was fired at the Democratic National Convention.
One of the reasons she was fired was because she was caught with her thumb on the political scales helping Hillary Clinton in her surprisingly difficult primary fight against Bernie Sanders.
Nevertheless, Hillary Clinton said this of her allies at the DNC according to CNN.com:
"I'm now the nominee of the Democratic Party. I inherit nothing from the Democratic Party," Clinton said. "It was bankrupt, it was on the verge of insolvency, its data was mediocre to poor, non-existent, wrong. I had to inject money into it -- the DNC -- to keep it going."
The DNC or the RNC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the White House depending upon which party is in power. If all of that is true, then the spotlight should be swung around to Barack Obama who, as I remember it, was President during that period and, therefore, controlled the DNC.
But, no. Hillary can complain about the data-monkeys in the basement of the DNC, but she dares not complain about the man behind the screen who owned them.
The man who is now the DNC Chairman, Tom Perez, is travelling the country trying to rally his troops against Trump. To do that he consistently drops the S bomb into speeches (the Washington Post has a compilation you can see on the Secret Decoder Ring page today) to demonstrate how upset he is with the GOP.
Lemme tell you something: If you cant rally Democrats against Donald Trump and a Republican Congress that cant seem to get out of the legislative starting blocks, you need to find a different career path.
Just about every analyst in Washington has now declared the U.S. House to be in play. Democrats need to pick up about 24 seats to regain control. Donald Trump is the reason, the cause, the root of the problem.
Maybe, but we havent yet seen a massive movement of Republican Members of the House distancing themselves from the President. We might get to that point, but were not there yet.
One of the reasons is the face and the voice of House Democrats is one Nancy Pelosi who is 77 years old. Bernie Sanders is only 75. Donald Trump is the kid at 71 (or will be on June 14).
As a person who qualifies for the Early Bird Meatloaf and Mashed special myself, I certainly dont fault them for living that long, but if I were a 30-something Democrat I might be looking for someone who is not old enough to remember having to dial 0 for an operator to make a long-distance call.
Hillary Clinton (age 69) needs to clear the stage, pick a cause, write a book, and shut up. She is the reason Donald Trump is President not the NYT, not the DNC, not the FBI, and not any other three-letter organization.
If she stays around the Democratic Party will be the minority party for decades to come.
